When asked about the album, the artist behind Below Ten Thousand Lakes had this to say:

"This album was two and a half years of recording, reconfiguring, and rewriting in order to get the album exactly where I wanted it. There were many times during the writing process that I had thought I was finished with the writing, only to find myself wanting more from the album. There are plenty of tracks that didn't make the album but could see the light of day in the near future. I'm incredibly pleased with how the album came out, from the production to the artwork, and I hope the people that do take a chance on the album enjoy it as much as I do."
